The Blackpool practice of Champion Accountants has advised on the acquisition of Thompsons Contracts (Blackpool) Limited by Sigma GRP.

The undisclosed deal marks one of the largest and most complex agreements negotiated by the accountancy group, which boasts offices across the North West and nearly 50 years of operation.

Led by David Hardy, director of Champion’s Blackpool office, the accountancy group oversaw the financial due diligence work on behalf of Thompsons Contracts, navigating the many complexities of the deal. Hardy was supported by Champion’s group head of tax, Gill Molloy, who advised on tax matters and carried out due diligence in relation to tax.

The acquisition of Thompsons Contracts by Castleford-based Sigma GRP will enable the interiors, furniture and fittings business to carry out its ambitious growth plans.

Hardy says: “This was a very complex deal, and so it’s a pleasure to have agreed such a satisfactory outcome for all involved. With this new investment we can expect to see Thompsons Contracts go from strength to strength, building on their fantastic reputation and standing within their industry.

“Negotiating large-scale and financially complex deals requires experience and expertise; an area in which Champion thrives. It can also be stressful for those who have worked so hard on their business for numerous years, and so we pride ourselves on delivering a smooth process for our clients.”

Joe Thompson, director at Thompsons Contracts, adds: “When the decision was made to sell, we knew we’d need someone with significant expertise to help us with the complexities. David and the Champion team did a fantastic job in supporting us throughout the deal – their advice and guidance in the acquisitions process has been invaluable in helping us achieve a smooth transition. They worked closely with us, putting our minds at ease and making sure we were kept up to date at all stages.”

Champion employs more than 100 staff across its headquarters in Manchester and practices in Blackpool, Preston and Chester.
