Champion Round-Up | 30th August

Champion Round-Up | By Ged Cosgrove, group managing partner

At Champion Accountants, our commitment to colleague development and progression runs deep – it’s woven into the very fabric of our business. Our culture of nurturing talent has been key to our continued success, and this month marks another proud milestone in our history as we welcome our latest cohort of trainees. Several have already started in our offices, with the final few recruits joining in the coming weeks. These fresh-faced individuals represent the future of Champion, and we couldn’t be prouder to play a part in shaping their accountancy careers with us.

Our trainee programme has long been a cornerstone of the business, and for good reason. We take immense pride in training our own people, offering them not just a job, but a lifelong career within Champion. In fact, many of our senior colleagues and directors began their journey right here, as trainees. Their stories are a testament to the success of our programme, and they now stand as examples of what can be achieved with the right guidance, support, and opportunities.

But we’re not just preparing trainees for success within our own walls. Some of those who have moved on from Champion have gone on to secure FD roles in varied industries. While we’re always sad to see them go, we’re equally proud when they return to us as clients, having experienced first-hand the exceptional suite of services and advisory support we offer.

For many, our trainee programme offers a fantastic alternative to university. It’s not the right path for everyone, and we understand that. Our trainees often become qualified much earlier in their careers than their university peers, giving them a significant head start and an invaluable depth of experience.

At Champion, we’re blessed with long service among our team – a reflection of our supportive and inclusive culture. As we welcome a new generation into the Champion family, we are reminded of the collective effort it takes to train, guide, and develop our people. The reward? Watching them flourish, knowing they are the future of our business.

In an era where skills shortages impact industries across the board, I urge business owners to consider the benefits of investing in trainees. Hiring and developing individuals you can mould from the ground up may well be the answer to your future talent needs.

Training our own has been one of Champion’s greatest strengths. As our latest group of trainees embarks on their journeys, we’re excited to see how they will grow, contribute, and carry forward the values that have made Champion what it is today.
