Client: Almetron
Sector: Manufacturing
Geographic location: North Wales
Qualifying R&D expenditure included costs for:
- Staffing
- Subcontractors
- Consumables
The Company
Almetron develop and manufacture bespoke chemical formulations for a range of specialist sectors including aerospace, automotive, construction, textile, industrial cleaning and agriculture.
New laws from the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) had led to increased regulations around hard-chrome plating (HCP), a process widely used in aerospace and defence. In response, Almetron’s in-house research chemists developed a suitable alternative from their manufacturing plant in Wrexham.
The Solution
Developing a new, compliant solution to restricted materials required additional skills and expertise. Subsequently, Almetron invested significantly on research and development.
“We’d heard of R&D before but weren’t completely sure about what we could claim for. Champion were brilliant throughout the entire process and questioned all our investments to see exactly what we’d spent in order to maximise the numbers.
“R&D is a core part of our business and we continually evolve and improve our products to stay ahead of our competitors.”
Georgie Rogers, director of Almetron
