The Company

Jarr Kombucha is one of only a handful of commercial sellers of the all-natural fermented tea drink, Kombucha; an up and coming hit with premium drinks distributors, wholesalers, cafes and restaurants around the UK.

Brewed and bottled on site from its brewery in Hackney Wick, Kombucha is a blend of tea, water, sugar and SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). Its ingredients are left to ferment in a warm environment, leaving a delicious drink that’s been proven to aid digestion, increase energy, detoxify the organs and balance blood sugar levels.

The Solution

Jarr Kombucha has developed a unique process to consistently brew great Kombucha, enhancing the recipe, reducing the alcohol content and creating three tasty flavours.

Still in its infancy, the business hadn’t ever considered R&D relief and the potential benefits. Due to the unique nature of the Kombucha brewing process, a number of its activities were eligible for the tax relief.

“Having worked with Champion previously we knew what to expect with R&D but didn’t really know what we could claim for, so when Champion came in and told us that a lot of what we were already doing could be used for a claim, we jumped straight into it.

“Champion made the whole process really simple, they asked the right questions and took the majority of work away from us. They’ve made us more aware of what can be used for future R&D claims, which has made us take more risks in order to improve the product that we offer.’’
