The Chester and North Wales Society of Chartered Accountants has appointed Sue Harris, partner at North West accountancy group, Champion Accountants, as its new chair.
The Chester and North Wales Society forms part of the Liverpool branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), which supports more than 4,000 members in Liverpool, Wirral, Chester, Cheshire, Lancashire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. Sue takes over the position from former chair, Jonathan Jones, who held the role through 2018-19.
Based at Champion Accountants’ Chester practice on Watergate Row, Sue brings 30 years’ experience to the role, including particular specialisms supporting charities and non-for-profit organisations.
Sue said: “I’m thrilled to have been appointed as chair and my goal for the year is to encourage more of our membership to get involved with the Society, including the Liverpool Society, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, and to take advantage of the numerous technical and social events organised by both Societies across the region.
“It is crucial, especially at this time of political unease that we adapt and change as Chartered Accountants to ensure that we continue to have a positive influence on the economic marketplace.
“An important part of the role will be to consider what the future of the profession looks like for our members in this fast moving digital age and how we can continue to attract a pipeline of talent into accountancy by highlighting the excellent career paths and range of opportunities available.”
