Why I started My LifeJars
My journey as an entrepreneur took a turn when I encountered a nearly catastrophic life event. Around 10 years ago, I became extremely ill with septicaemia. Told by doctors that I would not survive an operation to remove an infected colon, I realised at that moment that I had left my personal affairs a mess. Who could possibly trace the locations of my numerous key documents, not to mention the countless files, passwords, and contact details that pertained to the winery business I shared with my then husband? The majority of these were stored in obscure files on my phone or on platforms he had no access to.
More importantly, I hadn’t left the many messages of love for my children, or eventually, their own children, that I would want them to read upon reaching milestones throughout their lives, so they would know how much I loved them.
I needed a simple way to sort, store, and protect all my essential life records and put down my life story for posterity.
My problem, and I think we all have the same problem… is that I thought I would have more time. I thought I would have tomorrow.
Obviously, I’m still here. Through what I consider a personal miracle, I managed to recover from septicaemia. Over time, I healed and got back to my business and my family – but with a completely changed perspective.
This experience has made me extremely passionate about My LifeJars and about raising awareness around proper structuring of vital personal and business information.
