An audit and accounts manager whose career spans more than three decades has retired from one of Preston’s leading accountants.

Sheila Lonergan, from New Longton, has left Champion Accountants, located at Nelson Court Business Centre, after a successful career in financial services.

Having qualified in 1982 at Blackpool-based Haworth Moore, Sheila’s long and industrious career saw her establish her own successful practice, before working for a firm, Robinsons, that was acquired by Champion Accountants in 2008.

As senior accounts manager, Sheila was involved in the preparation of statutory accounts, working with a large proportion of the office’s client base. She was also heavily involved in staff supervision and training.

Mum-of-two, Sheila, said: “Champion is a very progressive company and I’ve enjoyed working with the team as the business has grown.

“Deciding to retire was a tough decision as I’ve learnt a lot over the years, but I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and friends.”

Stephen Robinson, director at Champion Accountants Preston, added: “Sheila has a flair for numbers and is great with people. She has been an invaluable asset to the company and we’re all very sorry to see her go.

“We pride ourselves on staff retention and Sheila is a great example of someone who has been very successful in their career. We wish her all the best with her retirement.”
