If you have received a Self Assessment tax return or notice to complete a tax return and not taken action, HMRC is giving you the chance to come forward and pay the tax owed.
HMRC’s latest campaign started on 9th July and applies to tax returns for any year up to 2011-12. As part of the campaign, it will be sending letters out to individuals, many of which will be followed up with a telephone call.
You will need to notify HMRC that you wish to take part in the campaign and once you have done so, will have until 15 October 2013 to submit your tax return and pay the tax owed.
After this date, if you fail to submit your return and pay the tax due you could face penalties of up to 100% of the tax or even be subject to criminal investigation.
